Prosthodontic Works

  • Dentures: can be taken in and out.
    • Partial dentures – to replace a few missing teeth. You have the choice of acrylic, cobalt chrome or valplast partial dentures.
      • Acrylic denture: is cheaper, it is a “gum stripper”. It is used when the prognosis of the rest of the teeth are not certain or when you are allergic to the materials used for the cobalt-chrome base.
      • Cobalt chrome denture: is more expensive, stronger compared to acrylic dentures, can be made thinner and therefore, it is more comfortable to wear. It is used when the prognosis of the rest of your teeth is good.
      • Valplast denture: improves the aesthetic when the clasps have to go around the front teeth
    • Full dentures: compared to a person with all their natural teeth, a person who wears top and bottom full dentures only have 10% of function.
  • Veneers: cover half of the tooth. You can have composite (filling material) or porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are made by the technicians in the lab. They are dearer, stronger and have better aesthetics.
  • Crowns: a crown is like a hard, rigid hat that covers the tooth all around. It is suggested when the tooth has a root filling (i.e. had root canal treatment done), when it is a cracked tooth, or when it is very heavily filled to prevent the tooth from further fractures. Crowns canbe done by the technician or in house with the Cerec machine.
  • Bridges: are used to replace one or two missing teeth. The abutment teeth (the teeth that are right in front and right behind the gap) are crowned, and the false tooth/teeth is/are welded to those two crowns.
